Nov 29, 2017 0min read
Start your engines, it’s that time of year again – the 2017 Isuzu Truckpower Truck of the Year finalists have been chosen by Isuzu’s judging panel, and it’s a cracking selection of the best Australian trucking has to offer. From workhorses to horse haulers, there’s no shortage of spectacular rigs on offer. So check out our favourites, read the owners’ stories and see if you can pick the winner. The $6,000 grand prize will be awarded by a panel of Isuzu judges, the winner will be announced in December’s issue of Truckpower.

DARRYN JOCKERS

When travelling Australia to participate in remote control truck exhibitions, Darryn says his Isuzu NPR 65-190 Tipper “ticks all the boxes. It carries all the toys, tows the caravan and seats the whole crew!”

GRAHAMS CONCRETE

For Rod and Kari Graham the “great horsepower and the smoothness of the automatic transmission” helped tip them in favour of buying four Isuzu FYJ 2000 8x4 Agitators.

GEOGRAPHE LIQUID WASTE

Damian Vallance of Geographe Liquid Waste says his company does the same work in real-life as Isuzu brand ambassador Shane Jacobson’s famous alter-ego, Kenny.

SCOTT LEEDEN

This entry shows how Scott Leeden and his horses travel in style, riding in a beautifully decked out FSD 700 trailer with lights and swish decals which Scott added himself.

ENHANCED PLUMBING AND GAS

Before he starts threading his way through the inner and outer suburbs of Canberra, Andrew McLean of Enhanced Plumbing & Gas loads up everything he needs for a day’s work in his Isuzu NPR 45-150 Tradepack.

DUELL’S REMOVALS

No destination is too exotic for Duell’s Removals. From dugouts in Coober Pedy to paddlewheel steamers in Murray Bridge – Jason Duell says he’s happy to have the tough Isuzu FXD 1000 in his fleet.

AMPERE ELECTRICAL

South Australian electrician, Paul Caruso, has plenty of great things to say about his Isuzu NPR 275. He declares it’s “easy to drive, has lots of torque for towing, and parks where no other vehicle can go.”

BONA VISTA TRUCKING

As the owner driver of Bona Vista Trucking, Tony has nothing but praise for the company’s Isuzu FX 1500. He said the vehicle offers “reliability and comfort” and “the power to get the job done.”

TOWZ4U

Graham Thompson of Melbourne’s Towz4U said his love affair with his Isuzu FSD 140-260 started with the salespeople at Patterson Cheney taking excellent care of him and continues to this day. He also says he “wouldn’t drive anything else.”

NEWTONS BUILDING AND LANDSCAPING

Bryce from Newtons Building and Landscaping says the company’s GIGA 455 CXY can do it all, and has never let them down. “In one week I carted 700 tonnes of sand. I hadn’t driven a truck for five years and the Isuzu with AMT was absolutely awesome,” Bryce said.

LAURIE DYKE

It’s not all about work horses in Truck of the Year. Sometimes it’s about leisure horses (is that a term? we’re rolling with it anyway). When Laurie Dyke decided to set out on a cross Australian road trip, he knew he needed something reliable – enter the NPR 200 Premium Tradepack with MWB.

Playtime’s over, get $3,500* to spend on extras.
