TRUCKING ALL OVER THE WORLD

With the world reopening after the covid-related lockdowns and travel restrictions of the past few years, the world’s trucking industry is finally able to organise shows and conventions. Truck shows around the world were cancelled due to the pandemic, and this year event organisers and attendees have been getting back into the swing of things, although some major events were postponed to later in the year because of the ongoing rate of covid-19 infections. Here in Australia the trucking industry has already started the countdown to the country’s largest truck show, the Brisbane Truck Show, organised by Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA). Billed as Australasia’s premier transport event with the biggest line-up of trucks, trailers, components, equipment and technology in the Southern Hemisphere, the biennial truck show dates back to 1968.   Next year’s Brisbane Truck Show will once again be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from May 18 to 21. More than 30,000 people attended the show in 2021, which won the Best Live or Hybrid Congress, Conference or Exhibition at last year’s Australian Event Awards.  Now just imagine if money was no object and you could attend truck shows all over the world. ELMIA LASTBIL, SWEDEN

AUGUST 2022

The four-day Elmia Lastbil is the largest transport event in the Nordic region, held in the southern Swedish city of Jönköping, the country’s largest logistical hub.  The 2022 truck show, scheduled for August 24 to 27, includes seminars from industry leaders, a vintage truck display and several competitions, including a crane operating competition with both male and female divisions.\ Website: Elmia Lastbila 

THE NORTH AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW, USA

SEPTEMBER 2022

Also known as the Detroit Auto Show, the annual North American International Auto Show is one of the world’s oldest vehicle exhibitions, with the first show held in 1907.   The first international carmakers exhibited in 1957, and it’s now a popular event for manufacturers to unveil new models and brands. The show also hosts the awards ceremonies for the North American car and truck of the year.  The 2022 show, scheduled for September 14 to 25 in Detroit, will be an indoor-outdoor hybrid event that will feature traditional vehicle exhibits, a showcase of automotive innovation and technology and street-course ride-and-drives.  Website: North American International Auto Show | North American International Auto Show (naias.com)

IAA COMMERCIAL VEHICLES, GERMANY

SEPTEMBER 2022

Describing itself as the leading international trade show for climate-neutral transport and logistics, 2022 IAA Commercial Vehicles will be held in Hanover from September 20 to 25.  The aim of the 69th IAA Commercial Vehicles is to link the commercial vehicle, bus and logistics sectors with leading technology providers and suppliers. EXPOTRANSPORTE ANPACT, MEXICO

OCTOBER 2022

Organised by the Mexican motor vehicle production industry, the 2022 Expo Transporte ANPACT is the largest cargo and passenger fair in the Americas.  The 2022 ExpoTransporte Anpact was originally scheduled in the city of Puebla for March this year but was postponed to October 5 to 7 because of the high rate of covid infections in the country and internationally.   ANPACT is the Bus, Truck and Engine Manufacturers National Association, and so visitors will be able to see a wide range of buses, trucks, tractors and engines, as well as semi-trailers, chassis, parts, accessories and service providers.   The 2019 show attracted more than 46,000 participants from 30 countries,  Website: Expo Transporte October 2022 | ANPACT

AUTO EXPO, INDIA

JANUARY 2023

The 2022 Auto Expo was cancelled because of the global pandemic, but the organisers are now gearing up to host Asia’s biggest motor show from January 13 to 18 next year. Auto Expo - The Motor Show 2023 will be held at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, about 35 minutes from Delhi. Cars, two- and three-wheelers, trucks, buses, vintage cars, super cars and bikes will be on display at the event, which is accredited by the International Organisation of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA). More than 600,000 people attended the last Auto Expo in February 2020. The Auto Expo is organised by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA). MID-AMERICA TRUCKING SHOW, USA

MARCH 2023

Considered the world’s biggest annual trucking industry trade show, the Mid-America Trucking Show celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022. Next year the show will be held from March 30 to April 1 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky.  The show, sometimes referred to as MATS, usually includes a free music concert, a series of educational talks from industry professionals and a truck-pulling competition. SOLUTRANS, FRANCE

NOVEMBER 2023

This five-day event is held in Lyon, France’s third-largest city. The biannual trade fair for haulage and urban transport professionals includes exhibitions, conferences and innovation awards.  The 2021 event attracted nearly 50,000 visitors and more than 1,000 exhibitors.   Solutrans 2023, scheduled from November 21 to 25 next year, will include a test track for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and light commercial vehicles (LCVs), as well as a 25 km semi-urban route for test drives.  Website: SOLUTRANS - International show for road and urban transport solutions - from 16 to 20 November 2021 - Lyon Eurexpo

CHINA COMMERCIAL VEHICLE SHOW, CHINA

The 2023 date for the China Commercial Vehicle Show (CCVS) has not yet been announced.  The last CCVS was held in Wuhan in November 2021. TOKYO MOTOR SHOW, JAPAN

The biennial Tokyo Motor Show scheduled for October 2021 was cancelled by the organisers because of the spread of covid-19. The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association has said the 2023 show will go ahead with a new name: the Japan All-Industry Show. The last Tokyo Motor Show was held in 2019 over 12 days, and included 192 exhibitors and attracted 1.3 million attendees. The show features motorcycles as well as passenger and commercial vehicles. TRUCK WORLD, CANADA

The “meeting place” for Canada’s trucking industry, Truck World is the country’s biggest truck show.
