Plaid pants, polo shirts, gorgeous weather and more iron than a blacksmith. Where else could we be but the
Isuzu Queensland Open golf tournament, which Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) is proud to sponsor once again.
The rich tradition of the Open dates back to 1925, and over the years the tournament has helped unearth many legends – from the Shark, Greg Norman’s, first win in 1983, to Stuart Appleby’s ground-breaking victory as an amateur in 1991.
The 2017 Open will be the fifth consecutive year Isuzu has been naming and major sponsor of Queensland’s oldest golf tournament, which will celebrate its 92
nd annual competition from October 26-29 this year.
With a proud history of kick-starting golfing careers, the 2017 Isuzu Queensland Open will be hoping to discover another diamond in the rough. Defending champion Brett Coletta won the tournament last year as an amateur – the first to do so since Appleby.
In the men’s draw, 132 golfers will contend for the prestigious T.B. Hunter Cup and a prize purse of $110,000. Entry is free to spectators, and perched upon the 18
th green with an ice cream in hand, the view is unparalleled.
IAL Advertising Manager, Jeff Birdseye, said Isuzu is proud to be supporting the event once again.
“The Isuzu Queensland Open continues to grow every year, and it’s fantastic for us to support some of Australia’s finest emerging sporting talent,” Mr Birdseye said.
“It’s a sign of the Open’s competitiveness that no winner has successfully defended their title since 1974, and that unpredictability is what makes it such an entertaining competition.
“It’s a great day out for the whole family and a prominent event on the Australian golfing calendar, so Isuzu is extremely proud to be the major sponsor for the fifth year running.”
