On track & on time with Allworks & Isuzu

There are very few things that ‘wait for no man’ in our modern world. Even a global pandemic couldn’t bring our transport systems to a complete halt.
From rail to road and into the skies, moving people, goods and services from point A to point B is critical to the smooth running of any modern society.
But just like anything else, transport infrastructure breaks from time to time and requires constant maintenance to ensure a safe and reliable service.
With over 36,000 kilometres of track and moving over 445 billion tonne-kilometres across the country last year, Australia’s vast rail network is a transport beast that requires the constant attention of a dedicated workforce equipped with specialised gear.

Enter Allworks WA, a premier provider of dry and wet hire equipment and experienced personnel for the civil and rail industries. Allworks presents a wide range of hire equipment, offering clients flexible and cost-effective access to top-notch transport solutions and machinery.
The company is an Australian family-owned business that has been operating since 1999. Originally from Western Australia, it now spans the continent, with hubs in Perth and strategically located throughout New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria.
Decades of experience in rail and civil works can be found behind the desk at Allworks, including its General Manager, Nick McLoughney, who oversees the company’s equipment lockers.

On the transport side of the offering, Allworks has over 40 Isuzu trucks in its fleet. They operate over a dozen water-carting trucks, 15 crew cab models in both F Series and N Series guises, five FVZ and FXZ 240-350 tipper trucks, half a dozen service trucks, and more.
"We offer everything from small tray tops to water trucks, tippers, and Hiab crane trucks," Nick explained.
"We also have crew trucks fitted with toolboxes and other accessories; they're very popular due to their versatility.
“We either dry hire the trucks to our customers, or if we’re hiring out other machines, we might put an operator in one of the service trucks and send them out, or we’ll put a driver in a water cart, so it’s a real mixture,” he said.
“We use Major Motors Isuzu in Perth when we’re buying our trucks, and the team there are just brilliant.”

Nick says the company relies on Major Motors to collaborate with local experts Welding Solutions in Bibra Lake to supply water trucks that can handle the heavy work and a rotating roster of drivers.
“Welding Solutions and Major Motors actually spoil us, the both of them,” Nick said.
“Some of our dry-hire trucks might have three or four different drivers in them per day, and they get treated pretty rough, so having a truck that we know we can rely on is very important both of us and for our customers.”
The FVZ 240-300 performs admirably for the task of water carting. Its powerful 300 PS (221 kW) engine develops 981 Nm of torque @ 1,450 rpm, sitting on a 6x4 platform with a considerable 24,000kg GVM.

Also available in 6x4 configuration and offering a 24,000 kg GVM comes the FXZ 240-350, which Allworks chooses to outfit in a hard-wearing tipper form.
The FXZ features Isuzu’s big 350 PS (257 kW) 9.8-litre, 6-cylinder engine with a thumping 1,422 Nm of torque @ 1,400 rpm. Fitted with inter-axle lock and cross locks on both axles, it’s equipped for maximum control and durability for the toughest jobs.
Of course, dry-hire trucks like those Allworks provides have to be safe, which Isuzu covers extensively on F and FX Series trucks. Depending on the model, these trucks have safety features such as ABS brakes, Electronic Stability Control, driver SRS seatbelt pre-tensioners and airbags, low-light-capable reversing cameras, ECE-R29-compliant cabs, and more.
Allworks’ 4x2 N Series and any 4x2 FRR/FRD and crew cab trucks are additionally covered by Isuzu’s intelligent Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), with features such as emergency braking, lane departure warning and forward collision warning working to keep drivers safe—particularly useful for service crews working in urban settings.
Though safety is a top priority for the company and its clients, Nick says the reliability of Isuzu trucks keeps Allworks returning to the brand time and again.

“More than two-thirds of our fleet work in remote locations, so reliability is critical,” Nick said.
“Our clients might be working 300 or 400 kilometres from the nearest service centre and a thousand kilometres from our head office.
“We mainly do our own servicing. However, if a truck is in a remote area, we may use a dealer to do the servicing, so it’s great to have the backing of such a broad coverage of dealers and service centres like Isuzu.”
Isuzu’s large, experienced dealer network and track record for delivering fit-for-purpose trucks play an important role for Allworks, supporting their need for consistent, low-stress service.
And with time-sensitive projects such as rail shutdown works in the mix—where 20 or 30 personnel jump on board for a four-hour job—reliable equipment is crucial to the operation's success.
“There might be three or four days of preparation, and then they’ve only got a three or four-hour window to remove some rail and get new rail in before the next train comes along,” Nick explained.
“So, getting water, fuel or personnel to and from those locations on time is absolutely critical.
“Isuzu Australia and Major Motors are helping us achieve our company vision of ‘On Track, On Time.’”
