Isuzu’s electrifying stand at MegaTrans

As the major sponsor of MegaTrans 2018 – a three-day supply chain and logistics event held from 10-12 May at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre – Isuzu Trucks had some exciting information to impart, of note, Isuzu’s electric vehicle (EV) pilot program.

With 29 consecutive years as the Australian truck market leader under its belt, Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) featured not only its extensive product range that has been the bedrock of its success, but also its sophisticated approach to aftersales support and broader transport solutions.

On the stand

Isuzu Trucks previewed some exciting new product offerings on their stand, including a brand-new addition to Isuzu’s popular Ready to Work pre-bodied range, the Servicepack X. An evolution of the enormously popular field vehicle – with a GVM range spanning 4,500 kg to 7,500 kg – the Servicepack X offers an all new design in storage units, putting tools and materials within easy reach. But the most exciting MegaTrans unveiling was Isuzu’s Electric Vehicle concept program. With estimations that EVs or ‘e-Trucks’ will comprise 25-35 per cent of truck sales in places like China and across the European market by 2030, Isuzu Australia has revealed its own locally-developed EV concept program. IAL is looking to trial truck models in the 6,500 kg – 14,000 kg GVM class with a view to developing an operating range of between 200 and 250 kilometres for urban applications. The concept models showcased proposed features, such as an onboard charging unit that can be connected to any three-phase power outlet, fully charging the trucks in six hours. As was suggested by IAL Director and COO, Phil Taylor, at Isuzu’s National Dealership Meeting in February, innovation and continual improvement is very much at the centre of Isuzu’s thinking, a fact borne out by Isuzu’s popular MegaTrans display.
